A Beginners Guide For A Self Tan Ritual

If you’re a tanning novice, this guide is sure to get you on your way to becoming a seasoned self tanner in no time.  Here’s how to apply Sea Sun Australia’s Super Dark Tanning Mousse for even, longer-lasting coverage and a natural-looking colour.

Step one: Exfoliate 24 hours before

It’s important to exfoliate 24 hours prior to tanning. This will remove any dead skin and create a smooth canvas for the tanning product and also help your tan last longer.

Step two: Remove hair at least 12 hours before

This is one of the most important steps in your self tanning ritual. If you choose to remove your body hair, make sure that this is done at least 12 hours before you tan. This will help avoid the tanning mousse sinking into loosened pores, creating dark spots and an uneven finish.

Step three: Moisturise just before tanning

Fake tan can often cling to very dry areas, so make sure that your skin is well-hydrated. Use a moisturiser every day in the week leading up to tan application, then moisturise very dry areas, such as elbows, knees, ankles, feet and hands, 2 to 3 hours before tanning.

Step four: Always use a tanning mitt

For a flawless, streak-free tan and stain-free hands, always apply tanning mousse with a tanning mitt.  It will help to evenly distribute and blend your tan, ensuring a flawless finish every time.

Step five: Wash off your tan in cool water

For a sun-kissed natural glow allow it to develop for 1 hour or to achieve a deep-bronze tan leave on for 3+ hours. Then, wash it off with slightly cooler water than normal, and don’t use scrubs or soaps as these can fade your tan. Simply rinse until the water runs clear.

Step six: Maintain your glow

Now that you have a beautiful, bronzed glow, the trick is keeping it even and long-lasting.  We’d recommend moisturising daily to hydrate your skin and prevent it from shedding. Also avoid taking long hot baths and showers as these can speed up the skin's natural exfoliation process.

After you’ve got your Insta-worthy glow, show it off! Just don’t forget to use the hashtag #seasunaustralia when you post all your sun-kissed selfies!
