7 Healthy Habits to Start Your Day Right

Your running super late but your car keys have gone MIA and you still haven't picked out your outfit for the day. You begin to regret last night's Netflix marathon because you know all the coffee in the world won't make up for the 4 hours sleep you had last night.

Sound familiar?

Well, mornings don't have to be such a struggle. In fact you can easily jump on the Keep Calm and Carry On bandwagon with these 7 healthy habits.

Don't Hit The Snooze Button

The snooze button can be a bit of a tease but it’s time to break up with it for good. Avoid temptation by keeping your phone out of reach, so you actually have to jump out of bed to switch off your alarm.

Let The Light In

Start your day, bright and early. As soon as you’re up, open your curtains to let natural light stream into your room. Thanks to mood-boosting Vitamin D, the sun will send ‘rise and shine’ messages to your brain so you can perk up naturally.

Make Your Bed

Making your bed is a simple task you can accomplish that will set the tone for the rest of the day. Retired Navy Admiral William H. McRaven once said, “Making your bed will reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.

And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made—and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”

Hydrate

Drinking a warm glass of water with lemon first thing in the AM rehydrates your body, which in turn aids digestion, clears the complexion, speeds up your metabolism and helps flush toxins from your system. So, be sure wherever you go, you’ve always got your H20. Bottoms up!

Self-Care Is Essential

Self-care is essential; it’s more than a luxury, its a necessity and should be practised every morning. Whether that’s simply taking 10 minutes to throw on an eye mask, write in a gratitude journal, call a loved one or meditate. Do something that make you feel good.

Eat A Healthy Breakfast

When you are literally breaking a fast, you have to make it count. By eating a balance breakie filled with lean proteins, healthy fats and whole grains, you’ll be able to maintain your energy levels, focus and concentration throughout the day.

Start In The PM

It may seem like a no-brainer but prioritising your sleep will help you wake up healthier and happier. Go for gold and aim for 7-9 hours a night. While you’re at it be sure to meal prep and lay out your outfit the night before to make your morning routine easy peasy.
